The series Flourishing was not planned as I didn't know the shooting scene before that day and I only had met Ale once before. However, it felt extremely easy for the both of us. Ale and I connected immediately on the aesthetic and the poses. She could have twisted her body in many crazy ways but she knew that keeping it as simple as possible would have given us the result we both wanted. I felt very inspired by the lines of the pool contrasted by those of the water. Once I sat down to create the composition, the poses just seemed to merge perfectly to me.
Flourishing, the first composition which also gives the title to the whole series, is about two separate but codependent times in my healing journey. The subject on the lower side represents introspection: exploring the past in search for answers, learning how to spend time with my thoughts and how to protect my energy, while also unlearning specific behavioural patterns embedded in my own social upbringing.
Conversely, my higher self rests still, represented by the subject at the top, released from ego and from the necessity to ask questions and able to handle triggers from past experiences.
Healing is not a linear process. Therefore, the two phases are supposed to merge and coexist.
